Løkken
After being home for just over a week I’m away again. Home just long enough to see some loved ones and do some laundry. I am currently spending the month of April in Denmark, spending time with my sister and her family.
The Daugaard family met me at the airport in Billund and after a brief stop at their home we were off to the summer house in Løkken. I didn’t sleep on the plane but I stuck it out after a brief nap in the car on the way to Løkken. I didn’t want to feel jet-lagged but I also didn’t want to miss anything. It worked because I was right as rain the next day!
Løkken is a tiny, beautiful cottage town on the north-west coast of Denmark. The beach in Løkken is one of Europe’s 10 best beaches, it has fine white sand and no stones. You can walk forever in the beach, or in my case run along the beach. I love running along the beach!! There are bunkers from World War II, some of them are still buried in the sand dunes but some of them are exposed and you can walk in and around them. Løkken is a wonderful place!
One of the things I love to do at the summer house is to go to the lighthouse. It is so beautiful. The thing about this particular lighthouse is that it likely won’t be still standing within our lifetime. All along the coast of Denmark there are buildings that are disappearing because of wind erosion. This is my tenth trip to Denmark, I have been coming for almost 19 years. I am feeling old now. When I first came to this lighthouse you could walk around the bottom of it and there was an ice cream store. Now, you can barely even see the bottom and there are no other buildings. We are lucky I suppose that we can still climb the sand dune to get to it and walk around it as it is now.
We really just spent a few days hanging around the summer house. We watched the sunset from the lookout point, we played games in the cottage, we read, we wandered around the shops in Løkken and we just had a fabulous time.
My niece has a Gala Formal to go to at the end of the month and we went to Hjorring one day to look at dresses. It is another cottage town about half an hour away. It was fun wandering around. I found the library and it was an amazing library, very new and exactly what a library should be!! It was great. We never did find a dress for my niece but we found one for me! Yup, I bought a dress so now I need an event to wear it to!
After the summer house we headed back to Skanderborg. Home for the Daugaards and a home away from home for the McCague’s!

Very cool pics!! It’s crazy how much erosion there is around the lighthouse and the exposed German bunker.
You are a very smiley bunch!! Looks like a toothpaste ad LOL!
