On My Way To Iguazu Falls
I am now in my third hotel in Buenos Aires! It is really old, in the centre of the city just off of Florida Street. Florida Street is the pedestrian, shopping street in Buenos Aires. The hotel is also around the corner from Galerias Pacific (Pacific Gallery) – sounds a lot like the shopping mall we go to in Aarhus.
The Pacific Gallery is really something to see! It has a lot of high end stores and is a large mall but the reason you need to see it is the building itself has been declared a national historical monument. It has these huge frescoes painted on the ceiling that were painted in 1946.
I am a little nervous about starting this new tour. We had our initial meeting and our tour guide seems great – full of energy. There are many young girls on this trip. I just may be the oldest one.
We were taking an overnight bus to Iguazu Falls. We had to check out of our hotel in the morning but we weren’t catching the bus until later, about 7:00. I wandered around the city for the day. It was great, a beautiful day to wander around. There was a huge market in one of the communities which was fun to check out.
The bus is surprisingly comfy, was a little worried about it. Not only do the seats recline, and you have a foot rest but they also serve a snack. Apart from me not being able to sleep, it’s not too bad. It is a long bus ride though. We are on the bus for about 18 hours before we reach Iguazu Falls.
When we got to Iguazu Falls we had to take a little mini bus from the bus station just move again to another little mini bus to drive to the border. There seem to be all kinds of rules about all kinds of things – we can’t leave the Argentian bus station in a vehicle from Brazil. It felt a little shady to drive to a parking lot & jump out of one vehicle into another. We are staying in a hotel on the Brazilian side of the Falls. It seems that it’s easier to get through immigration with the Brazilian vehicle and a driver or tour operator who knows how things work or maybe just someone who seems to know everyone. He just took our passports in and had them stamped himself & we were on our way.
I am sharing a room with two sisters from Finland. They are lovely. They are very quiet, one of them isn’t feeling well. Both of them are teachers and they have taken the year off. They have been traveling since June!
I’m heading out now. We are going to someone’s home for a BBQ!

Jen, Today the Toronto Star had an article written about the best shopping cities in the world. Buenas Aires was listed as one of the top five.It sounds very european and beautiful. I envy you.

Oh, that’s great Lee Anne! It is very European compared to other places in South America for sure. I was also surprised at how safe I felt walking around, I had received lots of warnings but I didn’t feel that way.
Take Care!
