Iguazu Falls

There are three different trails to take around the Falls. We started with the upper trail to the Devils Throat. I suppose this is really where the Falls start. It was a fairly long walk to get there and we had actually taken a little train shuttle for part of the way. It was so hot, I couldn’t imagine not taking the shuttle. Much of the walk to get there is over a catwalk. I was surprised at how long you are walking on the bridge, you forget that you’re walking over water. The Devil’s Throat is the view from the top of the Falls. You get to see the calm of the river before it hits the chaos. There were lots of people and taking photos was difficult. It was certainly beautiful though.

We went back down to the centre where the three trails meet, had lunch & a tiny break. It was really hot.

After that we took a jeep ride through the forest with a little tour to where the boats were and we took a boat ride. The jeep tour was fun, through the forest. I saw a Toucan in the wild! The microphone wasn’t working though so I couldn’t hear much of what the guide was saying. The boat ride was amazing. It was a little crazy – so much fun! We were so hot that getting wet was like a little piece of heaven. I was surprised at how close we got to the Falls – we went almost right under the water and the Falls are so big you are under for a long time. When we said we were okay with getting wet they took us over to another set of falls and did the whole round again. We were totally soaked and we loved it. I took a lot of photos at the Falls. I don’t think the photos really capture how massive Iguazu Falls really are.

We were lucky crossing the border that our driver looked after us each time. He just took our passports in for us. We went from Argentina to Brazil, back to Argentina and back to Brazil again. That’s not counting the shopping trip to Paraguay where there really is no border control but coming back into Brazil he looked after that as well.

We went to a traditional Brazilian Rodizio for dinner that evening. It was great. I had been to one before, in Estonia actually so I knew what to expect but I think it’s something everyone should try. It is a lot of fun. We ate way too much!

The following day we spent on the Brazilian side of the Falls. The views are just stunning! They only have one trail but it is just breathtaking really.

I wouldn’t be able to answer if someone asked me what side of the Falls are better, I was asked actually. Both sides are unbelievable. You really need to see both sides I think to get that panoramic view.

Iguazu Falls are just beautiful!

Before we left the Falls we went to visit a bird park. It was very good – I enjoyed it. It was great to see so many different animals that I wouldn’t normally get to see. I also held a snake! A little scary. I really was after a photo of a toucan, that was my motive for going so I’m glad I got one. Now I’ve seen a few of them in the wild, but taking a photo of one in the wild likely won’t happen.

On to Paraty on another overnight bus……
